Blue Lion Film is the New York-based production company of producer/director/editor Joanne Burke and producer/writer/cameraman David Burke.

Since moving to Paris in 1986, the Burkes have produced, written and edited independent films together under their company Blue Lion Film Inc., including series on innovative women in Mali, Thailand, Zimbabwe, and Guatemala.

 

Offered on this website are productions of their historical series on African Americans in Paris which include a 9-part series of shorts on artists, writers, musicians, and others in Paris;  Paris Noir:  African Americans in the City of Lights;  and most recently Fighting for Respect, the story of African American soldiers during WWI in France. 

 

Mary Lou Williams,  Music on My Mind, features rare and unique footage of the renowned  woman jazz pianist in great conversation and candour.  In 1990 it was broadcast in the United States on PBS, CBS,  in Canada,  and Arte TV in France, and several other channels in France.
