Henry Ossawa Turner was a Black American artist from Philadelphia (born in Pittsburgh) during the Harlem Renaissance period. He was accepted to study in Paris at the prestigious Académie Julian.
Turner would gain international recognition from his works and made Paris home for the rest of his life ( deceased May 1925).
